Description
Chamber Values: Support
Technology is one of the harder things a small business has to navigate, largely because there is no easy way to know what normal looks like. There is no magic benchmark for your exact size detailing what you should be spending on IT, what security measures are now expected and needed, or what questions to ask when comparing providers.
This session is informational and vendor-neutral, describing what a healthy small business IT environment looks like today and giving tips on what to watch for and how to evaluate your own against that standard.
Topics to cover:
- The baseline every business should have in place: secure network, standard business IT security measures, identity and access management, and backups that are tested and understood
- Where your data and apps can live (on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud) and the strengths and weaknesses of each
- The need for cyber insurance and common gaps that can cause claims to be denied
- How modern cybersecurity threats are changing and what they look like, how to think about modern IT threats, and tips to protect your business
- How modern IT support works and a frame of reference for cost in the Richmond market
- When a business needs in-house IT, when an outside provider is the better fit, and when the best answer is both
- What to look for in an IT provider - questions to ask and warning signs to watch for
